For example, most people consider speech therapy to be something only teachers should take care of - but children who struggle in speech could benefit greatly from being coached in voice production techniques, phonology exercises, articulation patterns and oral reading practice through play - which is exactly why they’re called “play” therapists.

First Things First
What exactly defines Dyslexia? According to Mayo Clinic, “People who struggle to understand letters and sounds in speech or read print face problems because they learn language differently than most people.“
This condition affects around 5% of children worldwide, with approximately 1 million Canadians living with it according to the Canadian Institutes for Heath Research. While the exact cause behind Dyslexia remains unknown, research shows that there are many factors involved including genetics, environmental influences and neurological issues.
While there isn’t a cure for dyslexic individuals, treatments can improve symptoms and reduce frustration levels. For example, in order to better manage the disorder, dyslexics often take advantage of computer technology which provides an alternative method of accessing information. As well, it helps dyslexics to learn faster through visual methods as opposed to verbal ones.
So what should I be thinking about if my child struggles in school with Dyslexia?
Identifying your kid’s needs early on could save him/her years of frustration later down the line. If your child is struggling with Dyslexia, then he or she may not be receiving adequate instruction. For instance, the school system may not provide appropriate tools or materials for learning. Additionally, teachers aren’t always equipped to deal effectively with this type of disability. So, if your kids’ teacher isn’t trained properly, it may lead to confusion, stress, and ultimately lower marks and grade retention.
If you suspect your son or daughter is having problems with literacy, talk to his/her teacher first.
We hope this resource helps you understand which approach works better for your child.

We’ve made some changes since publishing this article, including adding a section to our FAQs page about special education programs for kids in Toronto. Check it out below: https://www.tutorteam.
In 2010 John approached Mike O’Neill to form an innovative company specializing in offering customized education for kids with autism spectrum disorders through an online approach. By 2014 they had established themselves as leaders in delivering effective programs to teach kids with disabilities like Asperger’s Syndrome, ADHD; Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Integration Disorders and Dyslexia. They offer both 1:1 and Online programs which allows anyone anywhere to experience the power of positive behavior support training. Since then, they’ve grown significantly both nationally and internationally. Their mission continues to remain unchanged; “to ensure every child receives the personalized attention they deserve today. “
Today they employ 40+ highly skilled specialists across Canada serving clients across Ontario and Quebec providing quality individualized instruction with tailored service models including remote delivery, classroom and online sessions.
They cater to the specific instructional requirements of kids with ASD such as sensory issues, ADD/ADHD, impulsivity, aggression & communication difficulties. A recent client feedback says it best, “I am proud to say I found my “eureka moment” with Mr. O“nell.
In fact, since 2000, Canada has seen an epidemic rise in cases of children being diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASDs). In 2013, 1 in every 50 Canadian kids was estimated to be affected—that’s 3 times higher than in other countries like the U.S., Australia and England.
Fortunately, there is hope for parents who struggle to find high quality autistic support in cities across Canada. Many local communities offer great opportunities for families with children suffering with ASDs to connect with one another for peer groups and individual coaching through autism centers run by trained professionals.
Whether they live near Niagara Falls, Brampton, Edmonton, Vancouver, Calgary or Toronto, many young Canadians with ASD benefit greatly from connecting with peers from around the region. As well, specialized programs designed to teach those with autism learn a greater range of academic subjects, which improves outcomes during their secondary education years.
TutorOne is proud to serve these regions around the province of Ontario. We provide top-notch tutoring services, customized to assist learners with various levels of difficulty. Our high calibre educators possess the required certifications and training to ensure their lessons are informative, engaging and effective—all without sacrificing ethics, integrity or professionalism.

Parents should understand that special education services aren’t just reserved for “difficult” kids. Many “ordinary” children who struggle academically have specific educational needs. These children often benefit greatly from additional assistance. If this sounds like your family situation, then read on!
This article contains information on how to find the right program for your kid’s education, tips from parents who’ve experienced their own struggles, and suggestions for improving communication with educators. Read on to learn how you can take charge of your child’s special ed experience and find peace of mind for yourself and your whole family.
1. Find Your Niche
When choosing a niche market as a tutor, consider which subject areas your target clients tend to excel in. If you specialize in reading comprehension strategies then that would mean your clients would benefit most from sessions focusing on vocabulary building, sentence structure analysis, word choice and usage. On the other hand, if your client group prefers learning through hands-on experience like baking cookies, playing board games or making crafts, then those types of lessons should appeal to you.
2. Set Realistic Goals & Objectives
While setting a specific lesson agenda is important to ensure that every lesson stays on track, don’t expect to achieve everything during one hour. Instead, aim to meet several short term objectives. For example, if a parent tells you their kid struggles with handwriting but they’re also interested in math, you can work towards both of these subjects during one 30 minute session. Or perhaps you’ve noticed their child’s interest in sports, and they’d love to learn Spanish along with it. By establishing multiple shortterm objectives you’ll find that you’re able to accomplish far more during one session than you ever imagined possible.
3. Build Relationships First
Building relationships with parents and children is a big part of being a good tutor. When you first contact potential students, you should try to establish rapport by sharing things that matter to them. Perhaps this includes hobbies, interests, favourite movies and TV shows or anything else you share in common.

Who Should Adopt TutorOne’s Tutoring Methodology?
Every parent knows that the average public school education system has its faults, but few know that there are alternatives. Every year, parents become educated more about the effectiveness of individualizing children’s education. They understand that learning styles and learning strategies vary greatly among students and that students require additional focus and encouragement to excel, especially in subjects such as math, science, and reading. Students learn differently than adults; children absorb knowledge faster and retain it longer than adults can; and they’re less prone to procrastination. TutorOne’s comprehensive approach teaches kids to think positively, and teaches students when they don’t perform up to par.
Testimonial By A Parent Like You
"My son recently turned 15, and started taking Advanced Placement exams. He was doing quite poorly in Spanish II and English III, having scored only a 2 and 3 respectively. With one week left before he needed to take the AP test, I decided to enroll him in TutorOne Private Tutoring. His teacher had told me that he was a bright kid, but just didn’t put forth the effort required to excel. My son came home every day telling me about the amazing learning experience he was having with TutorOne. He did score a 4 on his Spanish II test, and his overall grade point average went from a 2.9 (D) to a 4.8 (A+) in Spanish, and a 1.7 (F) to a 4.0 (A) in English. Most importantly though, my son learned to love his studies and got a kick out of seeing his grades soaring. It was truly eye opening to see how one lesson per week changed everything." ~ Lisa H.,Parent, California
The TutorOne Difference
As you are now finding out, TutorOne offers a wide variety of different levels, age ranges, and subjects to accommodate all individual learning styles. What sets us apart from other programs is our commitment to educating and encouraging each student’s individuality, curiosity, and enthusiasm for learning. TutorOne is committed to the belief that every student thrives best in a positive, fun-loving, nurturing learning environment. We encourage our students to explore new ideas and engage in hands-on learning situations. TutorOne does not believe that children benefit from being confined to a class room in front of a standard curriculum all day long.
The TutorOne Difference is about creating an engaging atmosphere in which kids feel motivated to excel. The majority of TutorOne schools operate as small academies; they offer individual learning environments that allow students to interact within a group or with one-to-one tutors.
