A: This assessment is not intended to substitute for direct tutoring sessions. The purpose is only to determine whether or not the student would benefit from additional support； If so, then this information should be shared with the school’s administration.
After assessing the needs of the student through these assessments, we’ll use those findings together with the recommendations of the parent/guardian to assist us in selecting specific programs appropriate to meet his/her needs.
For example, some children thrive better when they learn in small groups or pairs. Others prefer individual attention and interaction from adults. We take all those factors into account during each program selection consultation.
All of our teachers must undergo training every single semester according to provincial rules. Our team consists entirely of certified educators who work exclusively with students in Grade 1 through 11 English Language Arts courses. Many of our instructors offer professional development opportunities to enhance their teaching practices. All of our teachers go above and beyond the minimum requirements required at both elementary level and secondary level. In addition, all of our teachers receive ongoing coaching and mentorship from trained specialists experienced with working with struggling learners.
Some schools in Ontario allow tutoring services to continue after hours, but most cannot accommodate outside scheduling requests after regular school office hours unless arrangements have been made beforehand. Please call us first if you’d like help getting started because many schools have special agreements with providers.
We recommend calling several different locations until you find something you feel comfortable with.
Tutor One does NOT provide in home service. While tutoring could potentially happen outside of Yankeetown, depending upon teacher availability and local weather conditions, we highly advise against it due to safety concerns for the child(ren), tutor, and other people associated with the process. Instead, we recommend having parents pick the child(ren) up and drop him or her back off in the evening.

• Paid Tuition Assistance

A: I was recently contacted by parents who wanted help getting through the middle school level French curriculum because they had heard about how I could get As during high school French classes but found themselves stuck after 10th grade. So far I’ve helped 3 families go past 10th grade this way, so I figured writing down some tips would be useful to more people.
Here’s my personal experience of tackling these courses, and how I did. We’ll break it down into sections:
Prerequisite Courses (French 12 & 13) For those taking intermediate/advanced coursework, you’re probably aiming towards a C+. Most teachers are strict like that because it makes things easier for everyone. These courses should really just focus on basics； grammar points, verb conjugations, vocabulary reinforcement, and other stuff related to being able to read texts/study materials comfortably. Here’s some tips on what I recommend when taking prereqs.
1. Make sure you pick a teacher where your prof is nice. Some teachers won’t teach you well unless you show enthusiasm for the class. Others will only offer poor feedback no matter how well you study. And yet others take the job so seriously, they actually sabotage your attempts to learn. Find someone who fits your personality type — friendly, patient, demanding, etc. If they aren’t willing to explain something on top of teaching, then find someone else. Don’t settle for less than excellent service. Also, try to schedule your lessons around lunchtime and before dinner. Having snacks available helps motivate yourself to finish studying. Make sure you leave plenty of time between sessions too since most of the material is passive information consumption (reading).
2. Watch videos beforehand whenever possible, especially ones designed specifically for your prof. They often come packaged together with chapters in books which mean they get taught alongside contextually appropriate text reading. Plus, video teaches retention better than written language does anyway.
