French Tutoring Greater Sudbury FAQs
FACTS ABOUT FRENCH IN GREATER SUDBURY ONTARIO AND SOUTHERN QUÉBEC REGION AREAS
In 2018, 2,837 francophones lived in Greater Sudbury, Canada.[1] Overall numbers continue to decline since 2011 from 4,638,[2] but francophone population growth continues to drop from 2014’s peak of 18,067 Francopolitans. As per 2017 census report published by Statistics Canada, Sudbury had 727 non-Canadians living among its residents, including 909 children under age 15.[3]
While many immigrants come to work and live in Greater Sudbury through government programs like New Canadians Settlement Plan[4], they cannot obtain official citizenship until after 8 years without Canadian provincial residency; which makes Quebecois easier options unless someone immigrates solely for education purposes. Therefore, only 11% of Greater Sudburites speak English as first language. [5]
According to 2016 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, 859 people reported French as mother tongue within Greater Sudbury area. A majority of those respondents spoke both languages fluently, however another 37 percent could communicate with some degree of proficiency in either language and 17 percent could neither understand nor speak French well enough to hold meaningful conversation.[6]
As of April 2019, total number of resident francophones who understand French as a primary language increased to 1,000 within Greater Sudburite region. Total number of resident francophones who speak French as a secondary language declined to 463, same amount of individuals who speak French less than “very well.” Meanwhile, 743 bilingual speakers remain within Greater Sudbury community.
Stage 1 – Pre-school to Grade 2
Stage 2 – Grades 3 to 5
Stage 3 – High School Years
Stage 4 – University & Beyond
We offer classes for adults who are interested in developing French language skills or those who wish to enhance existing proficiency. Our programs consist of small group, individualized sessions designed specifically to meet a student’s needs, goals and interests.
The French Language Curriculum is divided into six levels and covers grammar, writing, reading comprehension, vocabulary, listening comprehension and cultural topics including holidays, food and customs, sports and entertainment events, history, geography and art.
Students learn by engaging in real life situations. For example, they participate in discussions on current news articles, read novels written in French in order to increase fluency and practice speaking with other people. They practice their pronunciation of sounds, words, phrases and sentence structures by taking part in interactive exercises. Students learn the culture and heritage of Canada through games and role playing exercises and they develop confidence and self esteem through participation in community service projects. All of these experiences help students develop a love of learning and improve their communication skills which ultimately enhances academic achievement.
At Tutor One, we believe that students should be given choices regarding their education; therefore, we encourage parents and children alike to take advantage of our unique services and schedule a consultation today. Our team members strive to ensure every client receives exceptional customer service and attention to detail.
Tutor On has provided quality French lessons since 2008. We specialize in helping individuals improve their English skills as well as their French language abilities with personalized lesson schedules and customized teaching methods.
I’ve seen first hand that there are multiple ways to teach foreign languages: through fun interactive games, creative methods, and lots of practice — although most methods focus on memorization without practice which creates frustration among learners. Many schools today use technology, especially computers, which makes things easier for the teachers in various subjects due to the fact that teaching math problems requires less paper and pencil usage than reading words during speaking lessons. Some students hate studying, however, whereas others enjoy doing homework assignments. And some parents prefer to listen to songs in order to help motivate their kids, thus eliminating the necessity of reading lyrics and repeating the pronunciation for years until they perfect the skill; this way, they could get motivated instantly rather than waiting months for improvement. There are several other great tools available online which aid children in mastering foreign languages such as Duolingo, Memrise, Rosetta Stone® and Lingoda, amongst others. Most of these programs target younger generations though and I don’t recommend them for older ones since adult brains aren’t meant to take in foreign languages with ease, yet. They should still try these apps to improve their ability to converse in another language, nevertheless.
We understand English speakers who struggle to learn another language at work often times get stuck because they lack someone willing to practice the same language with them daily; it takes patience and consistency to master anything, especially a foreign tongue. However, even though many companies around the globe provide excellent training materials and online programs for their employees, some still fail to deliver high quality, effective education because those instructors are unable to properly communicate with their clients. If you happen to fall under this category, fret no longer, we at Tutor One are able to help. As long as you live anywhere in Canada & US, we guarantee delivery of effective lessons that will teach you the art of speaking French fluently whether you speak zero words before getting started or have had minimal experience. All you really need to begin studying abroad successfully is a dedicated instructor and great content material. Here are some key points which must go along with these factors if you hope to learn French effectively. 1) A Good Instructor- An ideal teacher should be knowledgeable in both languages being taught. They must also possess enough linguistic expertise to enable students to comprehend complex subjects quickly and easily. 2) High Quality Video Sources- When choosing a professional educator, look for videos featuring native speakers. These types of clips come from various reputable sources ranging from universities to popular YouTube channels.
How does it work? We offer several different options available per week. Some sessions include one-on-one instruction via Skype/Google Hangouts; some are group classes taught by certified instructors who use Zoom Meetings software on the computer. Each class runs 60 minutes maximum - no matter the length of your lesson. Lessons run Monday through Friday during term times. If there’s another day or time that would be a better match, we’ll be glad to accommodate. We’d love to hear from you! Contact us today. Call 519 705-5200 or send email to info@tutoronelive.ca.
We’ve had great feedback regarding our flexibility and accessibility for those working/coping schedules that aren’t conducive to taking lessons at regular hours. Our clients tell us they appreciate being able to schedule around family obligations because our teachers understand what people go through every single day, whether it’s having less than 4 hours per night or balancing a job alongside other responsibilities. Tutors provide tailored experiences and are willing to adapt if necessary -- like with parents needing to wake early mornings or students wanting extra practice in the afternoon.
Here’s an example of why this flexibility matters to you:
Last Wednesday was Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, many Canadian couples spend most of February apart due to a long distance relationship, or simply because of a busy work life / school load.
When you’re trying to juggle things yourself, it becomes harder to meet and keep up with classmates’ requests for homework assistance with little notice. Or perhaps you’re not very familiar the subject material yet and struggle to get started.
If something like that happens during a session, we always try to be accommodating and will gladly adjust the time of your next appointment.
TutorOne:
This website offers great opportunities for someone living outside Canada to learn a foreign language. Their mission statement goes something like this: “We offer affordable yet highly effective solutions to people learning foreign languages”. They offer several types of programs including intensive courses, short-term classes and long term language exchange programs; all aimed at helping learners achieve fluency faster while enjoying themselves along the way. All courses offered through Tutor1 include regular Skype/Zoom meetings and weekly tests to monitor progress. Some of these programs include group discussions, role play exercises and assignments designed to test your knowledge. If you wish, you are able to meet with a native speaker face to face during your course to help develop conversational skills and practise pronunciation. As well, Tutor 1 provides extensive feedback after every class to ensure maximum retention.
In addition though, these classes may provide students with unique opportunities to explore languages other than English. For example, some schools in countries like France even hold separate classes just for elementary children to learn French. The ultimate result is no different than if regular education was being held outside of the classroom. Students get to listen to native speakers speaking real sentences and receive instruction alongside peers from similar age groups. Not many young people really experience natural immersion nowadays unless they attend language academies abroad, which usually entail high tuition charges. Therefore, you ought to seriously consider teaching foreign languages in Canada if enough demand exists locally for a greater reach beyond standard curricula.
So, what better way to teach French in Greater Sudbury then to offer a range of elective subjects covering grammar, vocabulary and literature? These extra classes may encourage more students to stick with French long term than if they felt forced to master it quickly while focusing entirely on testing. But in order to guarantee maximum retention rates, these additional classes could focus solely on grammar, reading, writing and listening material only while ignoring discussions on cultural topics altogether. By doing so, tutoring firms may greatly benefit since the curriculum tends to remain unchanged.
• Fluency in both spoken and written communication
• Experience working alongside individuals of different nationalities including Germans
• Ability to teach specific grammar structures that support fluency such as past tenses and reflexive verbs
In general, this category tends to attract young people under 35 years old who enjoy being sociable and meeting new faces. Those living outside of Quebec City would benefit greatly from having a fluent tutor nearby who speaks English because many jobs require good conversational abilities. Who Should Adopt TutorOne’s Tutoring Methodology?
Every parent knows that the average public school education system has its faults, but few know that there are alternatives. Every year, parents become educated more about the effectiveness of individualizing children’s education. They understand that learning styles and learning strategies vary greatly among students and that students require additional focus and encouragement to excel, especially in subjects such as math, science, and reading. Students learn differently than adults; children absorb knowledge faster and retain it longer than adults can; and they’re less prone to procrastination. TutorOne’s comprehensive approach teaches kids to think positively, and teaches students when they don’t perform up to par.
Testimonial By A Parent Like You
"My son recently turned 15, and started taking Advanced Placement exams. He was doing quite poorly in Spanish II and English III, having scored only a 2 and 3 respectively. With one week left before he needed to take the AP test, I decided to enroll him in TutorOne Private Tutoring. His teacher had told me that he was a bright kid, but just didn’t put forth the effort required to excel. My son came home every day telling me about the amazing learning experience he was having with TutorOne. He did score a 4 on his Spanish II test, and his overall grade point average went from a 2.9 (D) to a 4.8 (A+) in Spanish, and a 1.7 (F) to a 4.0 (A) in English. Most importantly though, my son learned to love his studies and got a kick out of seeing his grades soaring. It was truly eye opening to see how one lesson per week changed everything." ~ Lisa H.,Parent, California
