Special Needs Tutoring Severn FAQs
I am going through my personal experience of working with special educational needs children, as well as other professionals who provide services to those kids, as a way to demonstrate why I believe that children with disabilities deserve equal opportunities and support like anyone else.
If you work in a school system, chances are good that you’re already familiar with some sort of program for students with specific needs - whether that is inclusion/separation programs, resource rooms, or specialized classes for students identified as having “learning disabilities.” But what exactly makes these different types of accommodations necessary? And what are they designed to address exactly?
To learn more, read this article and find out why special needs students are often overlooked and misunderstood, despite making up roughly 25% of Canada’s population today. Then find out how you can get involved and help improve things for children with disabilities.
What motivates me? What’s most interesting for me about being a part of this program?
Are students really ready to be taught outside of school?
Why should I do anything different than what other educators are doing already?
Is working with kids who aren’t like you actually rewarding?
What are some ways teachers can get involved in education that don’t involve getting paid $30 per lesson but still put food on their tables? Why are these methods better?
Where did I come from, anyway?
Do you feel like you have something uniquely valuable to bring to these discussions? If yes, why bother listening and participating?
If no, perhaps it would benefit both of us to find mutual value in one another rather than just trying to push through information because “I thought people liked to read things on Twitter.” After discussing such topics and how they relate specifically to the issues surrounding SMIYT, I hope that both parties walk away feeling inspired to continue pursuing the work I was hoping to inspire.
We will begin tomorrow night, January 2nd. We plan to meet every Monday evening after dinner during the academic term for approximately 4 months until February 26th. A schedule of dates/times will be posted soon. Please contact me via email if interested in helping!
Email address will remain private but the following guidelines must be followed while attending meetings: 1. No ‘SMIYTs’ allowed anywhere near minors;2. All communication will be strictly non-verbal only;3. When leaving and reentering the building everyone enters through separate entrances.
In order to maintain confidentiality the identity of those taking lessons, the parents, guardians and children themselves will NOT BE RELEASED TO ANYONE UNLESS THEY WISH IT OR ARE REQUIRED BY LAW.
At the same time, we recognize that some families struggle financially. For this reason, we offer many different types of payment options including monthly payments, hourly payment, credit card processing, online bill pay services through PayPal and more. As long as you meet the minimum criteria, the choice is yours!
To find out why you should use one, read below.
1. They have a dedicated teacher assigned to every student. A typical classroom would only contain 4-5 students. At Tutor One you’ll get a personal teacher who knows your child personally, which makes things easier in regards to scheduling. This way, no matter the child’s schedule, they always receive quality support.
2. Most classes consist of 2 hour sessions 3 times per week, giving them plenty of time for homework. They usually end around 5pm giving them ample time after school for dinner and homework completion. This gives them lots of extra practice during the weekends as well as summer breaks.
3. All lessons begin at 8am in order for kids to enjoy breakfast together afterwards. Some schools allow lunch at noon but most kids would prefer morning break since then it allows them the freedom to eat whenever they wish.
4. Each class includes daily assignments such as reading comprehension exercises, games, quizzes, spelling/vocabulary tests, math drills etc. These can range from 10 minutes to an entire 40 minute period depending on the lesson content.
5. Teachers are trained specialists with proven academic backgrounds. Their knowledge extends beyond teaching basic core subjects to specialized areas like autism, dyslexia, ESL, ADHD, anxiety disorders among other conditions.

What I love doing most about this industry is helping families find ways to better understand why things haven’t worked out yet and helping parents see solutions instead of feeling stuck and helpless because there isn’t a magic pill to cure every issue. My hope is that people realize that there is always room for improvement and that being positive does pay dividends. So I’ve made it my mission to spread as many ideas/tips / methods as possible with my clients to increase efficiency, reduce stress, keep kids engaged & calm and ultimately give everyone an experience that makes life less stressful.
It’s no secret that learning disabilities run rampant among those struggling with Aspergers Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Anxiety disorders, Depression, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, ODD etc. And I’m often tasked with working through some tough emotional issues along with figuring out which school program could work best for their children.
This post is a summary of everything I found during research while searching for tips on teaching young adults with developmental delays, including an overview of programs, services available and other tips I had come across. Hopefully some of this information helps those who struggle with similar issues along with anyone else thinking about starting something related to teaching young adults. Most people who are familiar with autism spectrum disorder know they live with a lifelong condition; however many fail to understand why this happens. It could be because some parents seem unaware of ASDs causes and symptoms. If you happen to find yourself in this situation then knowing exactly what special needs are will certainly ease your mind, especially once you get past the shock factor which often seems to accompany these disorders. Not only will having knowledge of the cause of ASD prevent unnecessary worry but its understanding and recognition will allow both you and your child to take steps to ensure his/her development stays true pace in life. So lets dive further into this topic and find something useful to those trying to learn more about ASD.
How Can An Autism Spectrum Disorder Affect Us As Parents Of Kids Who Have Them?
Many parents experience this confusion, sometimes thinking the reason behind their kids behavior towards certain events like birthdays or other family gatherings is due to “something I did as a parent that turned him against me”. While this thought may hold a small truth in it it fails to explain everything. We must always remember it was through no fault of our own that our kid suffers from an illness which alters their way of perceiving day to day situations. Many times this perception is caused by something else entirely, making it harder than ever to pinpoint blame onto anyone without getting bogged down in needless reasoning. In order to avoid being blamed by friends and relatives for raising a troubled individual it helps immensely to gain information and education around mental health issues so we can recognize signs and be better equipped to handle such cases in the first place.
Understanding Your Child’s Developmental Stage
Children develop at different rates depending on their age. From infancy and onwards children move toward independence and self awareness slowly developing these key areas along the way until finally reaching full maturity.
In this article I’ll take a brief moment to explore whether Dyslexic children benefit from being taught with special needs tutors.
I’ve seen some interesting things happen during my career, including helping kids overcome severe language deficits, but nothing quite like teaching a child who had previously failed every single test they took in grade 8.
This was the boy that would sit quietly and listen, then ask me questions about grammar, vocabulary, syntax and spelling. He’d write down words he saw written in books or the newspaper. He started taking tests again and passed his entire Grade 12 class with A/B+ scores.
He’s gone on to be a highly valued member of our company and a great friend. We’re still working together today to ensure he continues to thrive and reach his full potential.
This is just one example, there could be many other stories of people benefiting greatly by having someone teach them something specific. Whether you’re trying to learn English, Math, History or anything else it makes sense that a person trained to teach these subjects could provide some benefit.

Meet Some of Our Local Experts
Lately I Have Been Exploring Different Ways to Work From Home And Over my research process, I got to hear about a company called Tutor One. They had mentioned about offering different services, one being Online Teaching via Skype. As someone who loves teaching, I was extremely interested to see if they offered something similar to me. During my research process, I was pleased to discover they offer many different types of classes including English as well as Math courses but most importantly they only cater towards students aged 15 and above.I then contacted the Lead Team Leader to receive his contact information which he did promptly. After setting up a call, I spoke to him briefly about my experience prior to enrolling under their program which helped to smooth things along. Once enrolled, I received an email detailing all the steps i would encounter during enrollment plus additional information regarding payment methods and shipping costs amongst other details.

Who Should Adopt TutorOne’s Tutoring Methodology?
Every parent knows that the average public school education system has its faults, but few know that there are alternatives. Every year, parents become educated more about the effectiveness of individualizing children’s education. They understand that learning styles and learning strategies vary greatly among students and that students require additional focus and encouragement to excel, especially in subjects such as math, science, and reading. Students learn differently than adults; children absorb knowledge faster and retain it longer than adults can; and they’re less prone to procrastination. TutorOne’s comprehensive approach teaches kids to think positively, and teaches students when they don’t perform up to par.
Testimonial By A Parent Like You
"My son recently turned 15, and started taking Advanced Placement exams. He was doing quite poorly in Spanish II and English III, having scored only a 2 and 3 respectively. With one week left before he needed to take the AP test, I decided to enroll him in TutorOne Private Tutoring. His teacher had told me that he was a bright kid, but just didn’t put forth the effort required to excel. My son came home every day telling me about the amazing learning experience he was having with TutorOne. He did score a 4 on his Spanish II test, and his overall grade point average went from a 2.9 (D) to a 4.8 (A+) in Spanish, and a 1.7 (F) to a 4.0 (A) in English. Most importantly though, my son learned to love his studies and got a kick out of seeing his grades soaring. It was truly eye opening to see how one lesson per week changed everything." ~ Lisa H.,Parent, California
The TutorOne Difference

TutorOne is committed to the belief that every student thrives best in a positive, fun-loving, nurturing learning environment.
