Special Needs Tutoring Exeter FAQs
Tutor One® started back in 2012 as a small company run primarily by people passionate about helping children achieve higher levels of achievement. We had some experience tutoring but none remotely close to what we felt was necessary to get kids excited about getting out of bed early every morning. And this lack of excitement made us really sad. Why would they bother going to school when they hated it? Why wouldn’t they just skip school altogether? So we did something different — we began offering real options. Options we knew weren’t available elsewhere. For example, we knew kids with behavioural issues often got turned away from regular schools due to concerns regarding safety and disruption, yet many families still wanted to send their kid somewhere safe. We found ways around those barriers. Others are simply unachievable without the right technology, which brings another point that no other service seems able to understand — parents may be willing to pay extra to ensure their child spends the majority of his/her waking hours being immersed in enriching activities that lead naturally towards achieving academic excellence.
Today we continue working toward improving education outcomes through our passion for educating. By continuing to offer services that focus specifically on kids struggling in traditional educational settings, we hope to inspire more teachers, caregivers, therapists and coaches to step forward and share their expertise with educators across Canada. If nothing else, we aim to create more jobs for Canadians.
In short, everything we’re doing is designed from the ground up to provide families the flexibility to find solutions that meet both their individual needs as well as those unique situations.
TutorOne’s mission is to provide excellent services to meet the educational needs of children ages 3+ through college age. We employ qualified and experienced educators across Canada, including those with autism,...

What do you mean? I am already paying someone $25/hour who does nothing but teach me how to use Excel and other software programs! Why would anyone pay anything else? We live in Canada so my costs are higher than many people around the world. However, I make a great salary and the work is fun because these kids always surprise me. Plus, I get paid to hangout with some really cool children 🙂 So yes, I get paid to learn, play games, go outside, eat pizza and enjoy life while helping special needs individuals improve themselves. And, no, there are not enough hours in the day…

I was just told by one of my friends that she had heard the word “retirement” used quite often recently. She thought to herself, ‘this seems like something that happens after 65! Why should she be thinking about doing things that only older adults do?’ While her question seemed valid, the fact remains that retirement isn’t something everyone enjoys.
Here’s Why... If you’re struggling reading a book, watching TV or doing homework then chances are high that your dyslexia could be playing a part in those struggles. It’s true that everyone learns through experience and repetition. But sometimes there are times when repetition isn’t enough and we struggle because we aren’t able to access the information we need. A great example of a child who would benefit greatly from working with a professional educational support assistant was described earlier this summer by my friend Chris Wilson whose daughter, Ava had her third surgery after being diagnosed with CVI/PVL/CSCVI [cerebral vascular accident]. We watched as she struggled with the idea of school until finally the diagnosis came around. And though the surgeries helped enormously, she still wasn’t getting better and was becoming incredibly frustrated. Then Chris met me and he told me something he’d realized only recently... She knew exactly what words meant but couldn’t read or write down those thoughts. He wanted to find ways they both could be effective teachers together.
But why do we go to college if we get to learn everything already? Is there really a reason to pay thousands of dollars each semester to hear someone talk about stuff that you’ve spent hours studying yourself? Sure, in theory yes; but is that realistic and worth paying hundreds every week for lessons that aren’t helping you achieve anything significant yet? Absolutely no, and I highly doubt anyone would ever say they regret spending 10 years of their lives paying tuition fees to acquire degrees for nothing, especially if the knowledge gained doesn’t translate into tangible results in the real world outside university.
What is a Special Educational Need? A special educational need typically refers to specific deficits that impede children’s capacity to learn in school. For example, dysgraphia describes difficulties writing due to hand tremors or other motor impairments; this affects the ability of many people living with cerebral palsy and can be diagnosed early as a result. Many of these conditions impact children during infancy or toddlerhood but most often manifest themselves gradually, sometimes well after schooling begins. They may cause problems related to fine-motor skills, handwriting, reading comprehension and math computation as well as delays in language acquisition. A specialist assessment should be conducted to pinpoint the disability accurately. Parents seeking further information on a particular condition can contact us via telephone, chat live, email or direct message on Facebook Messenger.
We currently offer services in Exeter, Ottawa, Cornwall & Perth County
What makes our school stand out among other schools is that we believe teaching should be fun. We believe teaching should empower people to learn. And most importantly, we strive to deliver a program designed to teach, inspire, encourage and challenge our graduates to achieve beyond expectations.
There’s no denying that many parents struggle with this task; often times because there aren’t enough options available locally on campus.
In order to streamline your search, follow these tips below...
This program is perfect for those with ADD/ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, speech communication disorders, visual impairments and cognitive disabilities including dyslexia, dyscalculia, developmental delay, mental illness, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress syndrome and other neurological issues.
If these conditions affect a student’s ability to learn English independently, then this course of study is recommended.
Tutor One courses cover general topics like vocabulary acquisition, sentence structure, syntax and spelling. Each lesson takes approximately 50 minutes and covers different themes. Students work individually; however, in cases involving multiple students, instructors offer individual instruction during scheduled breaks between group sessions. All subjects must be taken consecutively or else each topic will not be understood correctly and effectively.
Students attend weekly meetings to discuss assignments, answer questions and receive feedback. Additionally, participants complete online quizzes every week which assess mastery of knowledge they’ve gained from past sessions. In addition to the weekly quizzes, students are required to submit written answers to homework problems submitted before class begins. If they fail to provide sufficient evidence of having completed assigned practice exercises, they are subject to additional assessment.
When appropriate this method helps identify and address areas of difficulty for both teacher and student alike.
All of these materials are custom made through my company, TUTOR ONE EDUCATION LTD. We currently partner with schools across Canada delivering customized curriculum programs for thousands of students.

How should I find my place in the market?
Is online coaching working for me?
Should I be certified in order to qualify?
I was recently interviewed as part of the Tutor One podcast series covering questions regarding Special Education in Canada. Hosted by Dr. Mark Hiscock from University of Toronto he quizzes and answers questions pertaining to this subject matter including but not limited to:
Do they really cost $2 million dollars? Why would families pay through the nose to send their kids abroad? Is Online Coaching worth anything? Should parents be concerned about the lack of accountability in some private schools? Does anyone else use Skype for home visits? Has anybody used Facebook Live yet? And many other topics related to Special Ed in Ontario.
Dr. Mark says “Parents who seek education options specifically tailored towards children diagnosed with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders or Intellectual Disabilities face several hurdles including high costs, lack of local expertise, lengthy waiting lists and general information overload. In reality, however, most parents don’t realize these services exist locally until after their kid ends up struggling in school. If given good information ahead of time, parents could take proactive steps like requesting recommendations, attending informational sessions, signing parents groups, searching for support networks or visiting centres for further research.“

Who Should Adopt TutorOne’s Tutoring Methodology?
Every parent knows that the average public school education system has its faults, but few know that there are alternatives. Every year, parents become educated more about the effectiveness of individualizing children’s education. They understand that learning styles and learning strategies vary greatly among students and that students require additional focus and encouragement to excel, especially in subjects such as math, science, and reading. Students learn differently than adults; children absorb knowledge faster and retain it longer than adults can; and they’re less prone to procrastination. TutorOne’s comprehensive approach teaches kids to think positively, and teaches students when they don’t perform up to par.
Testimonial By A Parent Like You
"My son recently turned 15, and started taking Advanced Placement exams. He was doing quite poorly in Spanish II and English III, having scored only a 2 and 3 respectively. With one week left before he needed to take the AP test, I decided to enroll him in TutorOne Private Tutoring. His teacher had told me that he was a bright kid, but just didn’t put forth the effort required to excel. My son came home every day telling me about the amazing learning experience he was having with TutorOne. He did score a 4 on his Spanish II test, and his overall grade point average went from a 2.9 (D) to a 4.8 (A+) in Spanish, and a 1.7 (F) to a 4.0 (A) in English. Most importantly though, my son learned to love his studies and got a kick out of seeing his grades soaring. It was truly eye opening to see how one lesson per week changed everything." ~ Lisa H.,Parent, California
The TutorOne Difference
As you are now finding out, TutorOne offers a wide variety of different levels, age ranges, and subjects to accommodate all individual learning styles. What sets us apart from other programs is our commitment to educating and encouraging each student’s individuality, curiosity, and enthusiasm for learning. TutorOne is committed to the belief that every student thrives best in a positive, fun-loving, nurturing learning environment. We encourage our students to explore new ideas and engage in hands-on learning situations. TutorOne does not believe that children benefit from being confined to a class room in front of a standard curriculum all day long.
The TutorOne Difference is about creating an engaging atmosphere in which kids feel motivated to excel. The majority of TutorOne schools operate as small academies; they offer individual learning environments that allow students to interact within a group or with one-to-one tutors.
