How many sessions is enough to get my child the most optimal benefit for his/her needs? Is it better to hire multiple private instructors, rather than one? If yes, why would I go ahead with doing this instead of having him/her attend classes in person? Can I afford the extra fee charged when booking online versus going through the phone line? Will I receive discounts for working with a specific group size? Is tutoring really worth the money? All these things must be considered before deciding whether or not hiring private tutoring makes sense for you &; your student...
This information isn’t meant to scare anyone away from seeking professional guidance -- quite the opposite actually. We’re simply trying to provide some insight into how to make SSAT tutoring work at home without breaking the bank and still getting excellent service. These questions aren’t meant to imply that tutoring prices vary wildly across locations, but there’s no doubt that they often fluctuate. So take note of these numbers below as well as the other information offered here.
Here are some basic facts regarding average hourly rates at different levels of expertise. A good starting point, especially if you’ve never tried a tutor outside of school settings...
1 Hour $50 Flat Fee 2 Hours $60 Per Hr 3+ Hours $70 Per Hr 4+ Hours $80 Per Hr For additional details, see www.tutoroneblog.com for updated averages.
Saskatchewan is home to many great colleges and universities, but they’re all different types of institutions — some focus primarily on academics, some on athletics, some on research and discovery, and some provide specialized training in healthcare professions like medicine, dental health care or medical laboratory science. They also vary tremendously in terms of size—from small campuses to large institutions serving thousands of students across multiple locations. And then of course there’s university tuition costs... So, if this sounds interesting to you, just click through these tabs to learn more about the different schools and their unique services in the area and whether they fit your academic needs at this stage in life.
1.) Saskatchewan is home to some of the top educational institutions around including: UofS, U of R & CFSU. All 3 offer excellent programs for both academic and athletic excellence.
2.) In addition to being able to attend an institution of the caliber mentioned above, living in Saskatchewan gives you many opportunities to explore the great outdoors. From hiking, skiing, camping, fishing, canoeing, swimming, golfing, hunting, snowboarding and even playing competitive sports at local parks and rec centres. Not only does this allow you to enjoy yourself outside, but your children will learn valuable life lessons through exploring nature.
3.) Lastly, if you live in Saskatchewan, you won’t have to worry about having to pay thousands of dollars to send your child to a private school because tuition prices are relatively affordable when compared to private schools in larger cities. Tuition fees range around $6k-$10k/year depending on whether or not you opt for full board or half board options.
But what does hold water is the fact that having children take these types of exams does benefit overall academic achievement for both primary and secondary school aged kids. Parents who opt-out may be depriving themselves of valuable feedback and insight regarding how well their child performs, but studies show that those who practice test taking at home usually see higher grade point averages when compared to peers during regular classes.
And though many believe schools should offer courses just for standardized testing preparation purposes and are paying through the nose for this training, teachers say this isn’t necessarily beneficial anymore than going to university once again or studying a trade in a factory or workshop setting. They feel that some of their teaching is being compromised because of lack of focus and knowledge by the teacher’s side.
So why pay $30k/year plus tuition fees for something that isn’t really improving student outcomes anyway?
In order to find out whether or not spending large amounts of cash on standardized testing preparations actually brings a positive return for students, we’ve created a report detailing average household expenditures and incomes among families living in various parts of Canada. We then cross referenced this information against the percentage of students enrolled in school districts which typically offer specialized SSAT preparation options.
Here are the results of this analysis on households earning less than C$100K per annum in Manitoba and Ontario respectively (excluding Quebec). All figures reflect expenditures for 2016:
1. Average Household Expenditures By Income Level:
Cadets Prep School: £19000-$25000 / 2.8% = $6247/$1092
SDA Preps: ~£14500-~17800 / 2.9%-3.

Does this idea seem appealing to you considering that it is cheaper than visiting a local school/college campus, yet equally satisfying?
This might be perfect for those students living outside of the city limits of Saskatoon but still struggling to score high enough marks required by schools. Or alternatively, for the student needing some extra guidance to get that big scholarship.
So, which route should you consider picking – study online or visit a traditional classroom setting? Here I’ll try to shed light on both alternatives through my personal experiences, along with the advantages and disadvantages of each approach.
We’ll show you exactly how you should be preparing for your test date. Learn what materials you should bring and use, how many times per week you should study, which websites to reference, which textbooks to buy, and more. We’ve got everything covered -- and we’re going to break down just what it takes to hit those 1600 points.
There are other exams available depending upon state requirements but most schools use the SSAT exclusively.

4 hour lessons can be arranged for groups of 3 or 5 people but they’re only offered weekly, once every other Tuesday. So far we’ve had 4 or 12 person group tutorials, which have worked well and provided plenty of guidance. If this is something you would like to explore please feel free to get in touch via Skype/Facetime, email me back or simply pop down to meet me at any convenient location for a quick chat!
2 hour lessons generally take place on Wednesday afternoons, but occasionally in the evenings (usually 2-3PM). These 2 hour sessions include homework assignments. Each lesson ends with a 30 minute exam.
3 hour lessons usually go ahead around Friday mornings (9AM), although there’s always flexibility. Lessons cover 1 or 2 subjects at a time and focus heavily on critical thinking and problem solving exercises. Homework assigned and exams follow each class.
5 hour lessons provide the perfect amount of structure for those who prefer to work with someone fulltime. Classes normally alternate Monday morning & Thursday afternoon. Students receive detailed instructions regarding their homework assignments and learn techniques to approach problems independently. We’ll spend some quality time reviewing the subject matter covered last time, then move onto homework questions. Exams follow classes.
There are many factors that determine the length of tutorial dates including where you live, current workload, availability of student teachers, holidays, exams, sports commitments and personal priorities. But overall the duration of these types of sessions should fit in line with most individuals’ busy lives, leaving enough extra time for life outside of tuition.
I’d love to hear from parents and students interested in joining our tutoring community by filling in our questionnaire below..
If you decide to apply for certification after being approved by the STF, you will have the ability to teach classes for either one hour sessions per week or five hours every other weekend. The minimum age requirement for SSAT instructors varies depending upon which province they work in. For example, teachers under 19 years old cannot take part in teaching courses unless they receive special permission from the Ministry of Education.
In terms of economic development Saskatoon ranks as third highest in Canada behind Toronto and Vancouver, both cities having populations exceeding 1 million residents each and is ranked as the top financial center outside of Toronto. Saskatoon has a strong banking sector, insurance industry, manufacturing base, transportation system and agriculture. It is considered the fastest growing city in western Canada due largely to its position along Highway 16 connecting Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton and the availability of high quality jobs in these sectors.
The University City of Saskatchewan was founded in 1909 and offers undergraduate programs, graduate degree programs and postgraduate certificates. They boast a student body of nearly 19 thousand students and offer courses in various subjects from Arts and Sciences to Engineering Technology and Business Administration.

Who Should Adopt TutorOne’s Tutoring Methodology?
Every parent knows that the average public school education system has its faults, but few know that there are alternatives. Every year, parents become educated more about the effectiveness of individualizing children’s education. They understand that learning styles and learning strategies vary greatly among students and that students require additional focus and encouragement to excel, especially in subjects such as math, science, and reading. Students learn differently than adults; children absorb knowledge faster and retain it longer than adults can; and they’re less prone to procrastination. TutorOne’s comprehensive approach teaches kids to think positively, and teaches students when they don’t perform up to par.
Testimonial By A Parent Like You
"My son recently turned 15, and started taking Advanced Placement exams. He was doing quite poorly in Spanish II and English III, having scored only a 2 and 3 respectively. With one week left before he needed to take the AP test, I decided to enroll him in TutorOne Private Tutoring. His teacher had told me that he was a bright kid, but just didn’t put forth the effort required to excel. My son came home every day telling me about the amazing learning experience he was having with TutorOne. He did score a 4 on his Spanish II test, and his overall grade point average went from a 2.9 (D) to a 4.8 (A+) in Spanish, and a 1.7 (F) to a 4.0 (A) in English. Most importantly though, my son learned to love his studies and got a kick out of seeing his grades soaring. It was truly eye opening to see how one lesson per week changed everything." ~ Lisa H.,Parent, California
