Special Needs Tutoring Middle Sackville FAQs
Before getting started with a student, the teacher/teacher assistant will need to ask some questions regarding accommodations available in his classroom environment. A student’s response to these inquiries will provide insight into current needs & difficulties being experienced by the learner. Some responses include; “ I’m fine with this” “I prefer sitting next to my friends or going outside”, “My parents take me home after school every day.” Once teachers receive information confirming the learner’s abilities, preferences, behaviors & expectations they will determine which type of lesson delivery most closely matches the learners’ requirements.
For example, a student who struggles or falls behind without intervention will benefit from an independent study program. While another individual prefers group work but feels challenged when left to complete assignments unassisted. An ESL specialist will ensure appropriate methods are used when teaching different types of lessons. The tutor will then develop a curriculum around the specific learning objectives identified within the course guidelines provided through the Department Of Education.

2. Ask parents if you could be part of their family’s life and spend quality hours together doing things like reading books together, playing games or going swimming at the local rec centre. When families are stressed and under emotional duress, having a friendly face to talk to can really lift their spirits and bring them back to normalcy.
3. Be creative! If you notice a parent struggling in particular areas, ask them questions like “What was your favourite book?” or “Which game did you enjoy when you played with Mommy?”. Once you understand what makes this person tick, use those questions to create fun experiences that encourage growth within themselves. Don’t push anything onto them but rather create opportunities where they feel good about themselves and show interest in trying new things.
4. Finally, take advantage of online education programs available through institutions like UHN or Dalhousie University. These programs typically provide courses that can benefit the entire household and allow you to gain practical experience teaching other people. These kinds of programs could prove invaluable should you decide to expand upon your tutoring business down the road.

We live in a dynamic society full of diverse people, yet many still struggle to understand those who differ because they feel uncomfortable being around “differently abled” individuals. But, how does this affect the school community?
Special Education students face various barriers to education including physical disabilities, emotional issues, developmental disorders, mental health concerns and chronic illness – just to mention a few examples. Many times these children go unnoticed, unvalued, uncared for and left without proper support services.

How does this relate to autism? Special Ed programs have been created specifically to work on specific things like communication, behavior management; however, those same methods can also benefit autism and other developmental disabilities as well. For example, I used tools developed by educators on the Autism Spectrum myself to develop the “Communication Toolbox” program which helps kids feel confident communicating verbally, nonverbally, socially, emotionally and academically. By utilizing these skills daily the student gains confidence which leads to better academic outcomes overall.
I currently teach and run individual educational sessions for children ages 3-5 years old and kindergarten aged students. As part of the school setting I offer support services across both the elementary and middle school levels. I provide 1:1 instruction in core subjects (math, science, English). I assist teachers with assessments and report cards for learning difficulties/disabilities. And finally, I coordinate and facilitate weekly parent conferences.

Who Should Adopt TutorOne’s Tutoring Methodology?
Every parent knows that the average public school education system has its faults, but few know that there are alternatives. Every year, parents become educated more about the effectiveness of individualizing children’s education. They understand that learning styles and learning strategies vary greatly among students and that students require additional focus and encouragement to excel, especially in subjects such as math, science, and reading. Students learn differently than adults; children absorb knowledge faster and retain it longer than adults can; and they’re less prone to procrastination. TutorOne’s comprehensive approach teaches kids to think positively, and teaches students when they don’t perform up to par.
Testimonial By A Parent Like You
"My son recently turned 15, and started taking Advanced Placement exams. He was doing quite poorly in Spanish II and English III, having scored only a 2 and 3 respectively. With one week left before he needed to take the AP test, I decided to enroll him in TutorOne Private Tutoring. His teacher had told me that he was a bright kid, but just didn’t put forth the effort required to excel. My son came home every day telling me about the amazing learning experience he was having with TutorOne. He did score a 4 on his Spanish II test, and his overall grade point average went from a 2.9 (D) to a 4.8 (A+) in Spanish, and a 1.7 (F) to a 4.0 (A) in English. Most importantly though, my son learned to love his studies and got a kick out of seeing his grades soaring. It was truly eye opening to see how one lesson per week changed everything." ~ Lisa H.,Parent, California
