Online Tutorial Sites Make Income Possible: Another benefit of becoming a teacher on a tutorial website is that most places take payments immediately once someone signs up, making income possible virtually overnight. Some popular sites include WyzAnt, ODesk, TutorVista, VIPKID, LiveOps, Udemy. TutorOne only pays monthly commissions. We’ve recently added the ability to buy direct via PayPal. When buying direct on our own service, you’re given 24 months to sell lessons and you’ll automatically begin receiving commission checks every four weeks following 12 months. Our payments system handles sales tax (varies wildly), takes care of customer support, and provides detailed reporting for both sellers & buyers.
I then show how these numbers vary depending on factors specific to Quebec’s labour laws and cultural context including the following:
Whether or not a person must be licensed;
What constitutes “full time” work versus part time work;
Salary rates for freelance workers (i.e. those acting outside of traditional employment);
Difference in pay rates across provinces;
Variations and inequities in salaries due to gender and other variables; and
Differences in average wages across industries.
We’ll dive deeper into why some professions are underpaid relative to education level/specialty. And we’ll explore various strategies you could use to get promoted beyond the starting postion!

How Much Tuition Can Teach Kids About Money?
By Dr. Mark Griffiths PhD - August 14th 2019
This week, the Ontario Government announced a $300 million investment in early childhood education. They say they’re hoping to increase graduation rates amongst young Ontarians who struggle with literacy and math and reduce poverty among families. But the question remains — how effective can tuition really be?
Tuition isn’t free. To earn enough income, most people still end up making less than minimum wage, no matter how well-paying their degree might seem on paper. According to Statistics Canada, only 28% of Canadian university graduates make the most common benchmark figure ($49K per year), the National Household Survey says 20% of recent college grads live below the income thresholds for extreme material deprivation ($19.5k-$25k). This leaves many graduating Canadians financially vulnerable.
Are you qualified? All instructors must be certified to deliver lessons and pass rigorous tests administered by the Canadian Bureau for International Development. TutorOne also requires proof of CPR certification.
Tutoring jobs in Canada come in several varieties; some pay hourly while others offer a fixed salary. Here’s a breakdown of common types of teaching gigs available across Quebec.
Hourly Pay Rate ($15-$30 per hour). Most tutoring positions fall under this category and generally involve one-on-one instruction. These gigs usually require only occasional travel since most tutors live nearby the schools they service. They typically require less experience than full-time employment because the teacher’s schedule tends to be somewhat irregular.
Fixed Salary Position ($55K+ annually / $12K to $18K monthly). These positions are great options especially if you want a steady income without having to worry about scheduling issues. A typical tutoring position involves working for multiple schools simultaneously since teachers rarely stay put. As long as the school provides adequate supervision during the day, this job affords a higher level of autonomy than many other opportunities available in education.
Part Time Tutoring Job ($40-$70 K yearly / $9K to $10K per month). Like hourly gigs but are generally offered once a week rather than daily. Part timers tend to provide services to local schools rather than private homes. Teachers have the flexibility to teach whenever possible. However, part-timers are less experienced than regular employees due to fewer instructional hours.
TutorOne provides a wide range of services including but not limited to; online scheduling for clients who need assistance outside normal working hours. Online tutoring sessions for students who want extra support during school breaks or after school hours. Online tutoring for subjects like Math, English, Science, French Language, History and Geography. Online tutoring for children in elementary schools or middle/high school. And more.
This post was written by my friend, colleague and business partner at Tutor One, Chris D’Angelo. He wrote about his story, why he decided to become a Tutor and his tips and tricks on how to get hired. Read Chris’s full article below!
Hi there! My name is Chris and I’m going to tell you how to find a job teaching kids, teens and adults in Quebec City and beyond. I started tutoring over four years ago, after seeing a lot of friends struggle with their education and their careers.
I had my own company and I wanted to help people achieve their dreams. When I first got into teaching, I thought I wanted to teach highschool students because I loved science and math. But then I found myself wanting to learn Spanish instead. So I changed direction and now I love helping kids to improve their grades.
When I first learned about TutorOne, I realized that the service really could solve some problems I had experienced personally. For example, I knew that my schedule wasn’t always ideal.
1. Think About Your Location First
If you work outside Montreal, chances are you won’t get many offers to teach abroad unless you speak English or Spanish fluently. If your local market is small enough, there are plenty of smaller companies who would love to expand their client base. Don’t underestimate the value of teaching in Toronto, Vancouver, London, New York City, Sydney, Melbourne, San Francisco or Dublin! These cities tend to attract many international students, who often prefer working with native speakers. They are less expensive than hiring someone locally, but they pay better than most other markets.
2. Determine Whether Or Not Tuition Is Required
Often times schools offer programs specifically because they can provide additional services like tuition reimbursement. While this could lead to higher fees overall, these programs mean you aren’t paying upfront for courses which allow you some creative ways to balance cost with benefit. When searching for French lessons, see whether classes come with mandatory exams. Be wary of institutions which only seem interested in making a profit instead of putting quality education first. Remember, French lessons are like therapy sessions; they aren’t something you just pick up overnight; you’ve got patience and commitment ahead of you.
3. Avoid Taking On Too Much Work Yourself
A good teacher needs to strike a fine balance between being supportive and holding themselves back. As a private tutor, you’re responsible for planning every lesson and ensuring that everything runs smoothly without stepping out of line or causing extra costs for yourself. Make sure you avoid becoming “the boss” and getting bogged down in paperwork.
TutorOne makes sure it does not limit itself to offering the traditional classroom approach. Instead, it provides opportunities to engage in innovative ways; whether it’s making use of online study tools to maximize efficiency or helping adults reacquaint themselves with different topics they once enjoyed.
We’ve got plenty of space in store for all kinds of adventures, be it hiking trails along a riverbank, camping under the stars, discovering local food spots, playing mini golfing, ice skating at the rink, swimming, biking, taking strolls down the park boardwalk or visiting museums and historical sites.

If you are interested in becoming a private English teacher then you must be thinking “how am I going to get started as a freelance tutor in Montreal?”
We understand this question because many prospective teachers ask themselves this same thing. So we created a comprehensive resource for those who wish to become professional ESL instructors in Canada.
This post is part 2 of 4 in my series on how to find a job as a private English Teacher Online. Part 1 was posted earlier today.
In this article, I’ll explain why working as a Private English Teacher is better than most alternative careers.
Why Become A Private English Instructor?
As mentioned above, one reason that working as a freelance English instructor can be appealing is because it’s often easier than other careers. For example, some professions require advanced degrees, expensive equipment or specialized training. Others simply take longer than you’d expect. But being a freelance language teacher requires no additional schooling beyond basic knowledge of grammar, punctuation and speaking/writing skills. And since you’re already fluent in another language, it’s possible that you could teach other languages without having to pay tuition fees.
Another big advantage is flexibility. Because you’ll be working independently, you have full control over your schedule. This includes scheduling classes whenever you feel like taking them — even during non-peak times, which is something that isn’t always available to salaried positions.
Finally, the fact that you work remotely gives you greater freedom than a traditional 9 - 5 workday structure would allow. While you won’t have direct contact with a single client every day, you’ll still receive regular feedback regarding your efforts. Plus you can still enjoy time outside of class with friends and family members.
Here are some facts to consider regarding salaries for tutors working in Boisbriand, Quebec. As mentioned above, our current average salary across different levels of experience varies significantly depending on location—so be prepared to negotiate accordingly. At present, most experienced tutors earn $50 per hour; however, this rate ranges widely according to region. We regularly hold group training sessions for tutors who would like to increase both skill sets that will improve the quality of services provided, and overall earnings potential.
If you’re interested in building a business online, then becoming a freelancer could just be right for you. By having extra income coming in beyond the normal nine-to-five job, you’ll get to spend less time doing admin and concentrate instead on making yourself more productive. When was the last time you actually enjoyed filling those invoices to clients? And did you realise you were spending far longer than necessary hunting down information, writing reports or updating spreadsheets rather than getting things finished quicker? Imagine not wasting time on busywork but having lots of freedom and flexibility so you can enjoy life outside of work too. If freelance opportunities fit well with you and you’ve got enough time available in your week, check out FreelanceSwitch’s article on why thousands of people use freelancing websites every day, including my personal favourite, Simply Hired. Plus, I’m giving away ten top tips for increasing profits and reducing costs through better management – find out how to avoid hidden expenses, save cash, find ways to reduce office bills and many other handy tricks below. Read on for details. But first... Let me introduce myself.
If the job description states that applicants must hold a certain degree, then you’ll need to prove to employers why you’re qualified enough to teach high school kids! The requirements will vary depending on the type of coursework taught, but here’s something to keep in mind when filling out the online form:
Tutoring Job Descriptions usually mention whether teachers are required to have specific certifications, like a BLS CPR card or TESL certificate for elementary courses. They could also ask for other types of credentials that aren’t listed, like experience working abroad (which would mean having worked overseas), taking college classes, or being enrolled in university programs related to your area of study.
So, if you feel like taking on this challenge and applying to Boisbriand tutoring positions, follow these steps below. First things first; get familiarized with everything involved in getting hired at a private school:
1. Read through the official website carefully and find every piece of information regarding the schools hiring policies, curriculum, deadlines, applications and other details. Be prepared to answer questions like “What grade level(s) will be taught?” and “How many hours are available per week?”.
2. Find out who owns and manages the institution you wish to work for and reach out via email/phone, asking questions like “Who makes decisions?”, “Does anyone else apply as well”, and “Can I contact my references during application stage”.
3. Fill out the on-line application form that is linked to the institutions’ homepage. If they mention anything about your education degree, try contacting your alma mater and confirm what exactly qualifies you to become part of their teacher pool. Make sure you include proof of your academic achievements and a sample lesson plan.
4.
1). Check references thoroughly; ask friends, family members, former colleagues, co-workers who had similar jobs to provide theirs. Ask for testimonials and reviews from clients for whom you’ve worked as well as those who haven’t used your services but would be willing to tell anyone else looking for a job why they liked working with you.
2). Once you’ve received enough positive feedback and reviews, then try checking job boards in other cities -- this way you’ll broaden your base and increase exposure to more potential employers. If you live somewhere near where someone posted a position opening then go ahead and apply via email and submit a resume along with a few sample assignments. A lot of times these positions are filled based on applications submitted in person.
3.) Make yourself stand out among thousands of applicants applying to these types of gigs. So many places offer generic cover letters where you simply state “I’m interested.” While I appreciate an enthusiastic letter but really this type of response makes me question whether you actually took the time to learn something about the company or job posting. A template response is fine but include things like “What inspired my interest?” and mention specific questions you’d like answered regarding the role -- this proves that you spent some thought on your response and show that you put effort towards crafting your own message versus sending a canned reply.
If you’re looking for a different path than teaching schoolchildren, then consider joining us as a private tutor who helps individuals enhance their own education through personalized sessions with one-on-one attention. We’re currently seeking qualified candidates in many subjects around the city including reading comprehension, writing, biology, math, accounting, computer programming, French/Spanish, history, English grammar & language, physical fitness, dance, music theory, health...
We’ve received feedback from thousands, so read ahead and get excited because this summer’s going to rock!

What Is A Tutorsector?
There was once a time when getting into college depended solely upon your high school GPA -- and this trend continues today.
Even though standardized test scores are becoming increasingly prevalent, these exams only account for 20% of what matters most when applying to universities nowadays. Most schools value student academic accomplishments instead - which is why being able to pass tests becomes essential.
This is particularly true when it comes to standardized testing programs like the PSAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT and GRE. These exams evaluate a student’s abilities in certain areas; however, passing isn’t always required in order to gain admission to prestigious institutions.

Who Should Adopt TutorOne’s Tutoring Methodology?
Every parent knows that the average public school education system has its faults, but few know that there are alternatives. Every year, parents become educated more about the effectiveness of individualizing children’s education. They understand that learning styles and learning strategies vary greatly among students and that students require additional focus and encouragement to excel, especially in subjects such as math, science, and reading. Students learn differently than adults; children absorb knowledge faster and retain it longer than adults can; and they’re less prone to procrastination. TutorOne’s comprehensive approach teaches kids to think positively, and teaches students when they don’t perform up to par.
Testimonial By A Parent Like You
"My son recently turned 15, and started taking Advanced Placement exams. He was doing quite poorly in Spanish II and English III, having scored only a 2 and 3 respectively. With one week left before he needed to take the AP test, I decided to enroll him in TutorOne Private Tutoring. His teacher had told me that he was a bright kid, but just didn’t put forth the effort required to excel. My son came home every day telling me about the amazing learning experience he was having with TutorOne. He did score a 4 on his Spanish II test, and his overall grade point average went from a 2.9 (D) to a 4.8 (A+) in Spanish, and a 1.7 (F) to a 4.0 (A) in English. Most importantly though, my son learned to love his studies and got a kick out of seeing his grades soaring. It was truly eye opening to see how one lesson per week changed everything." ~ Lisa H.,Parent, California
The TutorOne Difference
