Special Needs Tutoring Delta FAQs
Special needs are often times looked upon as “different” or “weird” but actually, these differences come from a neurological problem. They could range anywhere from mild cognitive disabilities/impairment, Autism spectrum disorder (ASDs), dyslexia; they could go along with visual impairment which includes blindness/low vision, physical disability including cerebral palsy (CP); sensory deprivation (like deafness, hearing loss, multiple disabilities, mental health conditions, cognitively impaired adults or older adult, epilepsy, seizure disorders, brain injuries, intellectual disabilities, autism, Down syndrome, Asperger Syndrome); emotional disturbance(s) such as anxiety & stress related issues, depression, ADHD, OCD, trauma; a combination of any of those listed above or something different entirely.
There is no typical case in special education. However, every child who receives support services through DSDBC (Delta School District Board Of Education) should receive the following supports:
Educators working alongside parents and other professionals should provide a well thought out Individualized Educational Program (IEP) designed specifically for every student with SDC, regardless of whether he/she identifies themselves as having ASD / ASDs or not. These programs must include accommodations tailored to address specific areas of educational concern. A program that addresses only academic achievement without taking other factors into consideration does not meet the standard required of educators under B.C. law.
Students with SDC may benefit from additional strategies beyond simply attending school everyday.
We offer competitive pay, a generous commission structure, full medical/dental insurance coverage, 401k matching program, paid vacation, flexible scheduling options, and a supportive team environment.

And as part of the Delta School District, we offer a range of services including individualized instruction, speech therapy support, school-based interventions, and afterschool programs.

I discovered a way to effectively calm down these hyper kids, but first I’ll describe the types of “calming” techniques you should incorporate into your teaching practice.
Types of Calming Techniques
1. Deep Breathing & Body Relaxation Technique
2. Body Movement Activities like Yoga/Quiet Time
3. Positive Affirmations & Self Talk to Calm Down
4. Use Arousal Tones/Tutoring Voice Tone
5. Play Music For Distraction Free Learning
6. Physical Therapy Exercises for Hyperactive Children
7. Visualization Activities For Quiet Kids
These techniques work because children tend toward physical activity as a distraction mechanism to relieve stress during challenging situations. When stressed (like being stuck with a homework assignment), children naturally try to find something physical to do. So, instead of just letting students sit passively and listen to instructions, engage them in some active learning activities like yoga positions they can follow along with. These exercises have proven effective with my class full of hyperactive boys. They learn better than the typical student too — they’re motivated enough to complete work without getting frustrated. But remember to use these methods sparingly and only as an alternative to other strategies like giving verbal praise and rewarding behavior. Once you’ve tried them, you won’t ever go back to those old strategies again 🙂

I use these strategies which work every day with lots of children including adults, to show readers how it CAN BE DONE, without being annoying, intrusive & making everyone feel uncomfortable around me, and I’m sharing a bunch of things that I have learned along the way with anyone who wants to learn more than just “do stuff”.
So please watch carefully because I believe that this material offers real value and can really help improve a lot of peoples lives. If you have dyslexic kids then you’ll find that most of this applies to ALL kinds of learning difficulties; I used Dyslexia/ADHD terminology back when this was recorded but since I’ve updated my own approach to dealing with learning differences I prefer ’dyslexics’ and ’ADD’ nowadays 🙂 Also note that I tend to deal with ADD/ADHD types differently from other learners, especially social anxiety sufferers. Those other types can often benefit from working on one part of their brain only at times – see why below....
2.) Private Lessons
3.) Online Classes & Tuition
4.) School Board Programs
5.) Group Education Services

We hope this article helps those who wish to become involved in helping kids learn to read better. We believe every child deserves a strong foundation of reading literacy to thrive in today’s world.

In fact, according to Statistics Canada’s 2011 General Household Survey only 50% of Canadians ages 15+ report having sufficient knowledge to understand how well schools address the specific needs of disabled schoolchildren. While progress has certainly improved education outcomes for these youth and in recent decades more funding dedicated towards addressing student disability has increased accessibility across multiple sectors, gaps still persist despite ongoing advocacy efforts by organizations supporting vulnerable populations. Consequently, many Canadian families remain unprepared for their child’s first foray into schooling or struggle to cope with unexpected changes to established routines following diagnosis. As part of this study, I conducted a community consultation meeting with parents residing in Delta B.C. whose children either attend mainstream elementary schools and/ or participate in regular supplementary resource services. Parents reported being concerned about possible accommodations given their own experience in dealing with similar situations. These discussions revealed additional information on parental perceptions of local policies that would shape attitudes towards accommodating unique needs including the availability of specialized preschool services, alternative types of childcare facilities, parental support groups and accessible housing options.

Who Should Adopt TutorOne’s Tutoring Methodology?
Every parent knows that the average public school education system has its faults, but few know that there are alternatives. Every year, parents become educated more about the effectiveness of individualizing children’s education. They understand that learning styles and learning strategies vary greatly among students and that students require additional focus and encouragement to excel, especially in subjects such as math, science, and reading. Students learn differently than adults; children absorb knowledge faster and retain it longer than adults can; and they’re less prone to procrastination. TutorOne’s comprehensive approach teaches kids to think positively, and teaches students when they don’t perform up to par.
Testimonial By A Parent Like You
"My son recently turned 15, and started taking Advanced Placement exams. He was doing quite poorly in Spanish II and English III, having scored only a 2 and 3 respectively. With one week left before he needed to take the AP test, I decided to enroll him in TutorOne Private Tutoring. His teacher had told me that he was a bright kid, but just didn’t put forth the effort required to excel. My son came home every day telling me about the amazing learning experience he was having with TutorOne. He did score a 4 on his Spanish II test, and his overall grade point average went from a 2.9 (D) to a 4.8 (A+) in Spanish, and a 1.7 (F) to a 4.0 (A) in English. Most importantly though, my son learned to love his studies and got a kick out of seeing his grades soaring. It was truly eye opening to see how one lesson per week changed everything." ~ Lisa H.,Parent, California
The TutorOne Difference
As you are now finding out, TutorOne offers a wide variety of different levels, age ranges, and subjects to accommodate all individual learning styles. What sets us apart from other programs is our commitment to educating and encouraging each student’s individuality, curiosity, and enthusiasm for learning. TutorOne is committed to the belief that every student thrives best in a positive, fun-loving, nurturing learning environment. We encourage our students to explore new ideas and engage in hands-on learning situations. TutorOne does not believe that children benefit from being confined to a class room in front of a standard curriculum all day long.
The TutorOne Difference is about creating an engaging atmosphere in which kids feel motivated to excel. The majority of TutorOne schools operate as small academies; they offer individual learning environments that allow students to interact within a group or with one-to-one tutors.
